Marin Alsop, the first female conductor of a major U.S. orchestra, takes the podium at 8pm tonight. After years as conductor of our very own Eugene Symphony, Alsop heads the prestigious Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. Way to go, girl!I love her comments to the press: "I think the most challenging aspect," she says, "is people's need to focus on the fact that I'm a woman. It's really entirely irrelevant to what I do."

yay women steppin' up and makin' music!! Baltimore, huh? impressive. now if only that wasn't such a shock to see-if women were more commonplace in positions of 'authority' in the music world, ie-weilding a baton. well, here's hoping the future becomes more and more harmonious.
Who knows...Abigail could be a major conductor:) I think Char-char might be a jockey, but that could be because I'm reading a book about horse racing....
a jockey-and you call yourself a friend?! think big, think "she can support our decrepit asses in the nicest raisin ranch in Oregon!!" hee hee hee-that's me, laughing at how funny I think I am : )
Jockeys ARE cool, and if she gets into horse gambling, your wrinkly asses could be rosy for a nice, long time! :p
